“a melancholy romance, op. 1”

“ A Melancholy Romance, Op.1” was inspired by the story of Orpheus and Euridice, but in my interpretation, they are both men and this is an interracial love story. This is my take on it.

Eurydice, overcome with heartbreak and loneliness turns himself into marble. Orpheus, a hopeless romantic who discovers the sculptured form of Eurydice, and is so overwhelmed with love that he kisses the sculpture, thus bringing Eurydice back to life. But here’s the dagger. He didn’t just bring him back to life, he freed him from this world. You see, Eurydice was so heartbroken that when Orpheus kissed him his love healed and completed Eurydice to the point where he set him free from the chains of the mortal world. A gift that Eurydice’s spirit will never forget. Orpheus immediately understood what he had done, and though it brought him a great deal of joy to know he had freed the nymph from heartbreak and stone; his heart in turn was filled with melancholy.
