Doorways Presents: ALT BALL

For 35 years, DOORWAYS has provided emergency housing and supportive services for individuals in our community living with HIV. Their programs serve clients at the complicated intersection of illness, homelessness, and poverty—each with several basic needs required to regain stability in their lives: shelter, household goods, food, etc.

For clients, these basics represent refuge, safety, and support amidst an incredibly difficult time. Along with the wraparound services DOORWAYS provides, they form a foundation upon which they can build; an opportunity to move from surviving to thriving.

‘Beauty From The Basics’ is a celebration of all that can flourish from this foundation. Simple necessities are often overlooked. Small comforts—otherwise taken for granted—can mean so much to someone seeking stability. Housewares, personal care items, and objects that make a house a home. These can take on outsized importance to a life in transition. For many, they act as the building blocks to realizing their greater potential.

ALTBALL reimagines these supplies, turning them into dynamic and avant-garde fashions. Designers, artists, drag queens, ballroom legends and community volunteers will showcase creations on the runway while raising funds to meet the needs of DOORWAYS’ programs.

Join us for a killer evening of community, fashion, and performance on May 16, 2024.

"It Was All Very Queer II"

I am honored to share with you that I will be showing my piece "How They See Me vs How I See Me" in the St. Louis Artists Guild's Summer exhibition, "It Was All Very Queer II". It Was All Very Queer II, is a national juried exhibition examining contemporary queer artists residing within the United States. The exhibition will examine work that investigates identity, social norms, inclusivity, and the celebration of being queer. The St. Louis Artists Guild believes artists within the queer community are an underrepresented group within the arts and deserve a space to express their creativity.

Juror: Brandon Anschultz - Director of Studios and Galleries at the Kranzberg Arts Foundation.

Brandon Anschultz is a queer artist, whose work bridges painting, sculpture and installation. He is originally from rural Arkansas, but has lived and worked in St. Louis for over 20 years. He has exhibited widely in many solo and group exhibitions. In addition to his art practice, Anschultz is an arts professional, having worked with numerous St. Louis arts institutions.

He is currently the Director of Studios and Galleries at the Kranzberg Arts Foundation.

I would be overjoyed if you would join me for a wonderful evening of art Friday, May 26th, 2023 at The St. Louis Artists Guild (12 North Jackson Rd. 63105 Clayton, MO)

Beyond Belief

Opening Reception: April 14, 2023 5-8pm

Art represents the moods of our souls, from darkness to light. It examines the human spirit and inspires creators and those who interact with the creation. The 'making' process may reflect on an inner journey, narratives, and symbolism that transform into creative epiphanies and spiritual connections - imbuing the object with unseen powers to touch our souls. The Beyond Belief juried exhibition call for art seeks work that addresses mysticism, otherworldly forces, inspiration, the divine, and humanity.

Juror: David Brinker - David Brinker is the Director of the Museum of Contemporary Religious Art (MOCRA) at Saint Louis University the first museum to bring an interfaith focus to contemporary art. Volunteering at the museum as an undergraduate student, then joining the staff in 1995, Brinker has been deeply involved in every aspect of the museum’s operations and growth. He has overseen several important initiatives, notably the MOCRA Voices podcast. Since assuming the role of Director in 2016, he has continued to advance MOCRA’s exploration of contemporary artistic engagement with the religious and spiritual dimensions.

David is active in the St. Louis visual arts and interfaith communities, and chairs the Visual Arts committee for the organization Arts & Faith St. Louis. David is also a professional flutist and keyboardist and published music arranger.

Tech Artista Presents: Sending Love & Light

Sending Love and Light is based around the phrase people sometimes offer when someone is experiencing hard times. Through the work chosen, love and light is translated into art form; the colors, textures, and stories are creative gestures of sharing the goodness art can offer. This exhibit is one of many I am really honored to be apart of and can wait to showcase what I have in the works.

New Perspectives in Drawing and Painting Exhibition

May 20 - June 18, 2022

The St. Louis Artists’ Guild is proud to present artists working in drawing and painting techniques. Over the past 50 years, drawing has been elevated from a supporting role to a primary medium, ranking alongside painting as a central art form. Despite its long history, painting continues to evolve and excite, with new generations taking it in unexpected directions. A central pillar of artistic practice, painting also has an enduring appeal for collectors and still dominates the art market. This exhibition takes the conversation forward, showcasing artists working in drawing and painting media that are bringing contemporary topics, issues, and aesthetics to traditional practices.

Juror: Lizzy Martinez - Drawing Painting Faculty at UMSL
